of their duties.

6. It may also be gathered from what I have stated that,

speaking generally, the experience to be gained in other

Colonies is not of a kind to qualify an officer to discharge

Ivanko the duties of Director of Public,in Hongkong. A qualified man is, in my opinion, more likely to be found in the cffice of

some of the Municipal Engineers or of some Provincial Engineer

in private practice in the United Kingdon. It is essential

that the person selected should have some experience in connect-

ion with large undertakings, as many of the works carnted cut

in Hongkong oone within that category, The following is a

statement of some of the larre works carried out during recent
